Detailed Review Of The 2023 Lexus NX

The 2023 Lexus NX is more than just a redesigned Toyota RAV4 (its lookalike), but it falls short of the standards set by the European crossovers it competes with.

Lexus offers the NX with no less than four different powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid that generates 302 horsepower, to give it the broadest appeal possible.

The issue is that none of the other Lexus models are as entertaining to drive as competitors like the BMW X1, which prioritizes driving enjoyment over functionality and fuel economy. For everyone else, the NX will undoubtedly perform admirably during daily commutes, weekend errands, and road trips.

Engine and Performance

Four different powertrain options are available for the 2023 NX. The base NX250 model is powered by a 203-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder, while the NX350 is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with 275-hp.

While the NX250 can be ordered with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the NX350 comes standard with all-wheel drive. Both vehicles have an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Starting with the NX350h, which combines two electric motors with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder for 239 horsepower, there are two different hybrid options available. The NX450h+, which gets its 302-horsepower plug-in hybrid powertrain from the RAV4 Prime, is the more exciting choice.

Even though the NX isn’t on the same level as the BMW X1 when attacking twisty tarmac, the F Sport trim’s adaptive suspension system firms up the ride and provides a little more poise.

Fuel Economy

The hybrid NX350h received ratings of 41 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway, making it the most fuel-efficient NX model, according to the EPA.

The top ratings for the turbocharged NX350 are 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, while the base NX250 is rated as high as 26 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.

The EPA estimates that the battery pack in the plug-in hybrid NX450h+ holds enough electrons to deliver up to 37 miles of electric-only driving range before needing to be recharged. The plug-in hybrid NX450h+ is rated for 38 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.

A hybrid NX350h returned only 34 mpg on a fuel-economy test route on a 75 mph highway, compared to an all-wheel drive NX350’s 28 mpg.

Interior

With a modern look and luxurious materials, cabin design in this generation of NX advances significantly. The NX has one of the roomier interiors among luxury-subcompact crossover vehicles.

Additionally, compared to many of its rivals, there is a little bit more passenger space in the back seat and more cargo space when the rear seats are folded.

Optional features include a panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats, an ambient interior lighting system with 64 color options, and black open-pore wood trim.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The NX from Lexus comes with lots of standard driver assistance features. All models come standard with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and adaptive cruise control.

Other safety features include standard adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assistance, and automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
