Leasing An All-electric Subaru In 2022, Everything You Need To Know

Subaru’s language isn’t luxury, neither is it performance. This Japanese automaker simply makes good cars, good enough for your on-road and off-road duties, cars with outstanding reliability, practicality, affordability, and fuel-efficiency ratings.

Being a small automaker, Subaru has weighed the risks and possibilities of completely becoming a pure electric car company. After careful observation, the automaker has decided to take things one step at a time, partnering with world automobile giants and fellow Japanese automaker Toyota.

“The EV market is not mature yet, so we will respond to it by deepening our cooperation with Toyota.” These are the words of the company’s CEO, Tomomi Nakamura, who confirms that the automaker will walk closely with Toyota to develop its future EVs.

Also, following the company’s announcement, stating that all its cars from 2030 will have a form of electrification, we expect fully-electric, hybrid-electric, or plug-in Hybrid vehicles from the automaker in the near future.

The Solterra

This Subaru-Toyota partnership might not have come as a surprise, but it seems to be yielding good fruits really fast. For the first time since the company’s existence, Subaru is set to release its first-ever all-electric car in 2022 as a 2023 model. This car is a subcompact SUV which will be called the Solterra, and it shares a lot with Toyota’s bZ4X. The Solterra will ride on a platform that was co-developed with Toyota, and this platform will also underpin the company’s future EVs.

The Solterra features an alluring interior design and an exterior that resembles the Toyota bZ4X but with some Subaru vibes. The company has also confirmed that the upcoming EV will feature a dual electric motor powertrain, producing a total of 215-horsepower and 248 lb-ft, just like in the b4ZX.

More exciting features on the 2023 Solterra include a panoramic sunroof, an enormous 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display, high mounted digital instrument panel, 8.3inch ground clearance, a large center console, etc. While the Solterra is yet to make its official debut, pictures suggest the car will feature a spacious cabin with above-average trunk space.

Due to its mind-blowing design and futuristic tech features, Subaru hopes to hit the ground running with the Solterra, as it looks to massively bolster its lineup of all-electric offerings before the 2030 model year.
