The GMC Canyon now has a 2023 model after more than ten years. The Chevrolet Colorado and the Canyon have always shared a similar appearance. Both trucks have similar powertrains, a comfortable ride, a luxurious interior, and excellent off-road performance.
The Jeep Gladiator, Ford Ranger, and Toyota Tacoma are some of the rivals that the 2023 GMC Canyon most closely resembles in terms of off-road performance.
Several GMC vehicles, including the Canyon, feature locking front differentials, locking rear differentials, Multimatic spool-valve dampers, upgraded suspension, and 33-inch all-terrain tires as options. This incredible car is so much more than that. Find out by reading on.
Engine and Performance
We are still awaiting official word from GMC regarding the full lineup of Canyon power trains for 2023. However, we anticipate that the Canyon will use one of Chevrolet’s turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four engines, each of which will have a different output depending on the trim level and be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
GMC has confirmed that the 2.7-liter inline-four engine with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque is standard on AT4X models. This is comparable to the Colorado ZR2. Other Colorado offerings that we anticipate seeing on the Canyon include the base engine, which produces 237 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque, and a version with 301 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque.
This would increase the power and torque of both of the GM mid-size pickup siblings over the V-6 powertrains found in the Honda Ridgeline, Jeep Gladiator, and Toyota Tacoma. Chevy removed the V-6 and Duramax Diesel engines from the previous Colorado, and we anticipate that GMC Canyon will do the same.
Interior
The Canyon’s interior now has some much-needed technology thanks to GMC. Underbody cameras, a head-up display, and a complete cabin redesign, similar to how Chevy updated the new Colorado’s interior, are available as options.
The gear shifter is now closer to the passenger side of the cab, making room for the drive-mode selection knob. A new digital gauge cluster is mounted behind a new steering wheel. Even those priceless cupholders have been moved by GMC into a deeper cubby that is located closer to the driver and passenger.
For instance, the AT4X trim includes a head-up display and a boomtastic seven-speaker Bose audio system as standard equipment. Denali and AT4X trims get a larger 11.0-inch display, while Elevation and AT4 trims get an 8.0-inch digital gauge cluster.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
GMC’s Canyon standard Pro Safety package has several of driver-assistance features. Important safety features include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, standard forward collision warning, standard lane departure warning, and lane keeping assist.
