2022 Nissan Rogue Vs. 2022 Subaru Forester: What Is The More Reliable SUV To Lease?

If you’re considering leasing the latest wheels, you might want to give some thought to leasing a new SUV, not just because it’s the new trend. If you enjoy spending some time outdoors with the whole family or you frequently travel through the beaten path, leasing an SUV with impressive ground clearance and an all-wheel-drive system should be at the top of your list. The 2022 Nissan Rogue and the 2022 Subaru Forester are the top SUVs that best fit the description.

The 2022 Rogue and the 2022 Forester are great family-friendly SUVs that can confidently haul the whole family from one adventure to another. But amongst these two great choices, which one does the job a bit better than the other. Is leasing the 2022 Nissan Rogue offering a more reliable SUV than leasing the 2022 Subaru Forester?

To help you make a more informed decision, here’s all you need to understand about the 2022 Rogue and the 2022 Forester.

What’s New

After it got a full redesign in the 2021 model year to mark the beginning of its third generation, the Nissan Rogue is back to the 2022 Nissan lineup with some exciting changes that are more focused on delivering a more fuel-efficient Rogue.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue, still the brand’s top-selling car, is a small SUV with many desirable features to make it to the top of the list of any shopper looking to lease a small SUV. With a focus on delivering better fuel economy, the new Rogue drops the 2.5-liter four-cylinder for a more powerful turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that makes 201 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque. The Rogue also packs a revised continuously variable automatic transmission to boost its acceleration and deliver better efficiency. Other worth mentioning changes in the 2022 Rogue include a new brand badging and a revised SV Premium package.

While the Rogue got its ground redesign last year, Subaru gave the Forester its complete full redesign in the 2022 model year. For 2022, this compact SUV comes with an updated exterior styling that features a restyled grille, updated Led headlights, redesigned bumpers, and fresh wheel designs. A new off-road-oriented trim, the Wilderness model, joins the 2022 Forester lineup. Inside, the redesigned Forester boasts an updated brake system and an updated EyeSight driver-assist system that includes upgraded camera sensors and an automatic emergency steering system. There’s also an optional Driver Monitoring System with hand gesture controls for the climate control system and a panoramic sunroof (only standard in higher trim levels).

Powertrain And Transmission

Neither the 2022 Rogue nor the 2022 Forester is the quickest or the most fun-to-drive SUV in the segment. Of these two choices, if you prioritize quick acceleration, more power, and torque, you should consider leasing the 2022 Nissan Rogue over the 2022 Forester. However, the standard all-wheel-drive system in the Forester, optional in the Rogue, will leave you spending extra.

All 2022 Nissan Rogue come standard with the new and more powerful 1.5-liter turbocharged inline three-cylinder engine after Nissan had dumped the former 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder. This new 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine delivers 201 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque, a 20 hp and 44 lb-ft improvements over the outgoing model’s 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine. However, like the outgoing model’s transmission, the new Rogue’s powertrain is still mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive as standard; all-wheel drive is optional.

The less powerful of these two choices, the 2022 Forester still sticks with the familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, despite being a fresh model. The 2022 Forester’s 2.5-liter flat-four-cylinder engine makes 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. It is still hooked to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that directs the engine’s power to Subaru’s trademark all-wheel-drive system.

Handling And Performance

Compared to the 2022 Rogue, the 2022 Forester is a better off-road vehicle. Its standard AWD, which is not so common in the segment, also distinguishes this Subaru in this class. However, the difference in the performance of both SUVs is a matter of taste. While both SUVs won’t fully satisfy most driving enthusiasts, some believe that the 2022 Forester affords a more refined handling, responsive steering, and strong brakes but is undermined by its soft engine with poor power.

Fuel Economy

As the new Nissan Rogue is more focused on delivering a more efficient powertrain, it comes as no surprise that the 2022 Rogue offers better fuel economy than the 2022 Subaru Forester.

While the EPA estimates for the 2022 Nissan Rogue’s new turbocharged three-cylinder engine are not public knowledge yet, Nissan claims that the new engine is more efficient than the outgoing model’s powertrain, with an increase of 33 mpg combined, three mpg over the 2021 Rogue engine.

Despite the 2022 Rogue having more efficiency, the 2022 Forester lease deal will also satisfy shoppers looking to lease a fuel-efficient compact SUV. This Subaru’s SUV earns an EPA estimated ratings of 26 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, which is not bad in its segment.

Interior

Inside, the 2022 Rogue and the 2022 Forester seats five in their well-built and classy cabin with quality materials. Their interior also affords an impressive head and legroom space, but taller passengers will feel more comfortable with the new Subaru Forester.

For cargo capacity, both SUVs offer one of the most expansive cargo capacity in the compact SUV class. Apart from taking on any off-road adventure, the 2022 Forester has enough cargo space to back all your camping equipment. It affords 28.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 74.2 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. In comparison, the Rogue gets 74.1 cubic feet with its rear seats folded flat and 31.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats.

For infotainment, the 2022 Rogue comes standard with an 8-inch display that features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The 2022 Subaru comes standard with Subaru’s latest Starlink interface that sports a 6.5-inch touch screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
