2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Vs. 2022 Land Rover Evoque: What Is The Best Off-Road SUV To Lease?

Call it the clash of the icons. Deciding to lease either the 2022 Grand Cherokee or the Evoque is never going to be an easy decision. These two SUVs are the direct descendants of vehicles that gave birth to the SUV segment during WWII. While the Grand Cherokee remains as one of the best models any shopper can lease in the 2022 Jeep lineup, creating a perfect blend of luxury and jeep off-road ability, the Land Rover Evoque is that family SUV that takes the whole family to where only a few SUVs can dream of, and still offers exciting luxury.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Land Rover Evoque are family-oriented SUVs with elegant touches and outstanding off-road prowess. But is leasing the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee better than leasing the 2022 Land Rover Evoque?

To help you decide which will make a better lease choice, here’s all you need to know about the 2022 Grand Cherokee and the 2022 Evoque.

What’s New?

Last year, Jeep launched the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee with a new three-row SUV model, the Grand Cherokee L. this time around, still in the fifth generation, Jeep has introduced the WL Grand Cherokee, which, unlike the outgoing L model, comes with only two-row seats.

With the introduction of the all-new WL Grand Cherokee, the Grand Cherokee sheds its old bones, with a shorter dimension and less cargo room than the outgoing Grand Cherokee L. However, the fully redesigned 2022 Grand Cherokee offers an exciting mix of luxurious features and impressive off-road prowess. The all-new 2022 Grand Cherokee is an impressive improvement from its previous models. It boasts a new interior styling and design elements and sports the Jeep’s latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system and a new digital gauge cluster display. Under the hood, while it still comes with the familiar V6 and V8 powertrains, a new plug-in hybrid system, 4xe, is now part of its powertrain options.

The Range Rover Evoque may be the smaller and more affordable model in the Land Rover lineup, but it still offers the on- and off-road capabilities of every car wearing the Land Rover Range Rover badge. After it got a complete redesign in 2020 and a few tech updates in 2021, Land Rover still moves to make the Evoque more appealing in the 2022 model year by adding some tweaks and more standard features.

The 2022 Evoque is still an adorable luxury town runner and legitimate off-roader. The 2022 Evoque HST trim now packs a mild-hybrid powertrain with 296-horsepower. All 2022 Evoque models now afford more standard and available features, including heated front seats, keyless entry, power rear liftgate, and wireless smartphone charging pad. The Yulong White on the exterior color palette now makes way for the Ostuni Pearl White.

Powertrain And Transmission

If you want a family SUV with more power and torque, leasing the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee should be your choice over the Range Rover Evoque. While the Grand Cherokee uses an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Evoque uses a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The 2022 Grand Cherokee comes with trio powertrain options. Its base model comes with a 3.6-liter V6 that generates 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with RWD and an available AWD. There’s also an available 5.7-liter V8 that churns out 357 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there’s a new powertrain, the Grand Cherokee’s first PHEV that uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four and an electric motor to produce 375 hp with RWD as standard and AWD as optional.

For the 2022 Range Rover Evoque, there are two available powertrains. The first one is the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that generates 246 horsepower. If you want more power when you lease the 2022 Evoque, you should go with the optional powertrain that uses a turbo-four and a 48-volt hybrid system to deliver 296 horsepower. Both powertrains pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the all-wheel-drive system.

Handling And Performance

Both SUVs offer strong acceleration and responsive steering. However, the Jeep Grand Cherokee offers quicker acceleration and a tad more refined steering feel. Nevertheless, the Land Rover Evoque still continues with the brand’s off-road heritage while still satisfying shoppers with a luxury experience.

While the Evoque’s 2.0-liter turbo-four engine and mild hybrid powertrain deliver ample power for the daily commute and taking on the freeway, the Grand Cherokee is more powerful and handles better. The Grand Cherokee is also very composed and offers a smooth ride, thanks to the adjustable air suspension that provides up to 11.3 inches of ground clearance. However, the Range Rover Evoque offers a tad more calm and blissful over rough pavements.

Fuel Economy

If fuel efficiency is the thing for you, you might as well consider having the 2022 Range Rover Evoque lease deal on your shopping list. The 2022 Evoque is slightly more efficient than the 2022 Grand Cherokee.

The 2022 Grand Cherokee, with the 3.6-liter V6 engine, gets an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. With the 5.7-liter V8, the numbers drop to 14/22 mpg city/highway. Hopefully, the new Grand Cherokee 4xe will have better fuel economy numbers.

The 2022 Evoque earns an EPA number of 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which has been poor in its class, is still better than the 2022 Grand Cherokee.

Interior

Inside, the 2022 Grand Cherokee sports a well-built interior with many standard niceties. Perhaps the Grand Cherokee’s interior is a step above the rest in the 2022 Jeep lineup (probably except the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer). As well built and tastefully designed as the Jeep Grand Cherokee interior is, it is nothing compared to that of other premium SUVs like the 2022 Evoque.

The 2022 Evoque stays true to what a premium SUV should be inside. However, the Grand Cherokee offers a roomier cabin with more cargo hold. But this is understandable, as while the Grand Cherokee finds itself in the midsize luxury SUV class, the Evoque is content to be in the subcompact luxury SUV class.
