Kia has been on a roll for the past couple of years, giving its reliable lineup complete makeover and new designs. And this year, though, we thought that one of its longest-standing nameplates, the Sportage, would make it to the list of Kia models to get a thorough overhaul. But that’s not happening till next year. For now, we’d be content with the updates in the 2022 Kia Sportage.
The 2022 Kia Sportage affords some notable changes across its trim levels. Kia has dropped the S trim in the 2022 Sportage lineup, replacing it with a Dark-themed Nightfall Edition. Also, the EX trim receives more standard equipment. While the LX Value Edition now comes with more features, including heated front seats, hands-free keyless access, and 18-inch wheels.
Although the Sportage is one of Kia’s first cars in the ’90s, the Sportage has evolved over the years to a compact SUV that offers cool styling, practicality, and nimble handling. The new Sportage may have some downsides like poor fuel economy ratings and cargo space; nevertheless, this compact SUV has other strong positives to make it worth leasing. Thanks to its two rows of adult-friendly seating, long list of standard features, a turbocharged AWD powertrain, and comfortable ride, all at budget-friendly pricing, the 2022 Kia Sportage lease deal offers a great value lease bargain in the class.
Kia offers two four-cylinder engine options in the Sportage. Its base engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. Moving higher up the trim, Kia offers an optional turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that coughs out 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired to a six-speed automatic, and we prefer the optional AWD for its improved driving dynamics.
While both the naturally aspirated engine and the turbocharged engine delivers decent power to move the Sportage AWD, the base engine feels a bit uninspiring and lacks the flair to take on the freeway. However, the potent turbocharged powertrain offers improved power. And though Kia is not so athletic, its handling is composed, and its steering is responsive and firm. Overall, the ride quality is great.
The fuel economy rating of the 2022 Sportage AWD with the base engine is 22 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, while the turbocharged engines return 19/24 mpg city/highway.
On the inside, the new Kia Sportage AWD boasts a decent and cool cabin with a great fit and finish and nice materials. This compact SUV comes standard with the easy-to-use Kia’s UVO infotainment system that features an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and other connectivity.
The 2022 Sportage AWD accommodates five people in its two rows of seats. Both rows are comfy and roomy. However, its cargo hold is less than what is obtainable from other compact SUVs.
Kia equips the new Sportage AWD with some basic standard driver-assist features, including automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, forward collision warning, lane keep assist and departure warning, and a rearview camera.
The 2022 Kia Sportage AWD may not be the best in its class, but it offers a strong value to make it worthy of consideration. And to lease a new Sportage at insane lease rates, contact VIP Auto, 1204 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10305 https://viplease.com/.
