What an SUV lease costs once New York City tax is added

New York charges sales tax on a lease at the start, on the total of all the payments, under the state’s lease tax regulation, 20 NYCRR 527.15. In New York City the rate is 8.875 percent. On a Zero Down lease that tax is usually rolled into the payment, which raises it by about the same percentage:

Picking the right SUV size for the city

Compact SUVs are the easiest to park on the street and fit most garage spaces. All-wheel drive does not have to cost much more here: the Tucson SE AWD, Kicks SV AWD, Sportage LX AWD and Rogue SV AWD are all $308/month or less.

Midsize or three-row? Price both before you decide. Right now the three-row Pathfinder SV is $398/month, a dollar less than the two-row Murano SL AWD. If you need a third row only a few times a year, a three-row SUV may still cost you nothing extra.

Comparing payments without the amount due at signing
