Powertrain And Transmission
If you prioritize more power and torque, you should consider the 2022 Genesis GV80 lease deal. While the all-new MDX uses a 10-speed automatic transmission, the 2022 GV80 uses an eight-speed.
Powering the all-new 2022 Acura MDX is the familiar 3.5-liter V6 of the outgoing model. This V6 still makes 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. However, unlike the outgoing model mated to a nine-speed, this V6 now pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission. All MDX models come standard with a front-wheel drive, while Acura’s SH-AWD system remains an option. Like the 2020 MDX, we might see a new Acura hybrid model this year.
The fully redesigned MDX will also come with a new sporty variant, the Type S model, powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 355 horses and an all-wheel-drive system.
Like the last year’s model, the Genesis GV80, now in its second model year, is expected to come with two engine options. The GV80 comes standard with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to churn out 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. If you find this powertrain uninspiring and don’t mind shelling extra bucks, you can go for the optional twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 that coughs out 375 horses and 391 lb-ft of torque—both engines pair to an eight-speed automatic transmission. And while the four-cylinder comes available with either rear- or all-wheel drive, the V6 comes solely with all-wheel drive.
Handling And Performance
You’ll quickly find the all-new MDX powertrain exciting. The transmission is smooth and slick, while the V6 pushes out enough power to keep going, whether for city or highway driving. It may not be the fastest or sportiest luxury midsize SUV out there, but the MDX is agile, with composed handling and firm brakes. The ride quality is not the fanciest, but neither does the Genesis GV80 offer any better ride quality.
Like the Acura MDX, the Genesis GV80, but not offer so much as a slick and paradisiacal ride, but it’s still smooth and comfortable. While none of the powertrains disappoint, the optional V6 is more engaging. It offers quicker acceleration and more ample power for all your driving needs. The automatic transmission is a tad more refined than that of the MDX.
