When it comes to leasing luxury sports SUVs, there are the German machines, and there’s everybody else. Of the whole pack of non-German luxury midsize SUVs, the Infiniti and the Jaguar brands present worthy alternatives. These SUVs come with exceptional exterior styling, elegant interiors, and graceful driving dynamics to make them stand out from the crowd.
If you like to have something a little different, you should consider going with the 2022 Infiniti QX50 lease deal or leasing the 2022 Jaguar E-pace. Both of these SUVs offer something a little different from the flashy German competitors in the luxury midsize SUV segment.
Whether you end up leasing the QX50 or the E-Pace, you’ll never go wrong with any of these SUVs. Here’s all you need to know about the 2022 QX50 and 2022 E-Pace and how they stack up against one another.
What’s New
In the highly competitive compact luxury SUV segment, the 2022 Infiniti QX50 aims to sway many shoppers with its delicate styling, quiet and spacious cabin, and fuel-efficient powertrain. This Infiniti’s entry-level SUV is still part of the second generation that debuted in the 2019 model year.
For 2022, the QX50 receives more feature updates and upgrades. The 2022 QX50 now packs more standard features, including the Wireless Apple CarPlay functionality, Infiniti’s ProPilot Driver Assist suite, and minor interior trim enhancements. The ProPilot Assist aids include standard adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. There’s also a pair of rear USB-C ports, keyless entry functionality for the rear doors, and rear door handles with LED lights.
Like the Infiniti QX50, the Jaguar E-Pace is the Jag’s entry-level SUV. This small luxury SUV is the brand’s smallest and most affordable SUV. The 2022 E-Pace is still part of its first generation that debuted in 2018. Last year, it got a midcycle refresh that included tweaked styling, improved interior materials, and an upgraded infotainment system. For the 2022 model year, Jaguar decided to keep the E-Pace that way, with zero significant changes, which comes as no surprise.
However, the 2022 E-Pace still affords some notable changes. A rearview camera now comes standard in the 2022 model year of the E-Pace. Also, the 3D surround camera is now part of the available feature list.
Powertrain And Transmission
If you’re more interested in leasing a fun-to-drive small luxury SUV, leasing the 2022 Jaguar E-Pace fits the bill. This small Jaguar SUV offers more power, torque, and powertrain refinement than the 2022 Infiniti QX50.
Also, while the CVT in the Infiniti may make for an efficient powertrain, but it fails to utilize most of the engine’s power like the Jag’s nine-speed automatic. The CVT also makes the QX50 engine so loud when pushed hard.
The 2022 Infiniti QX50 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. This turbocharged I-4 uses a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) to send power to either the front or all four wheels. While doing a great job at being efficient and reducing emission, the variable compression- VC-Turbo feels laggy with dull responses, making leasing 2022 QX50 not an exciting choice for shoppers looking for a quick small luxury SUV.
Like most other small luxury SUVs in the segment, the 2022 Jaguar E-Pace comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 246 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque in the base model and the SE models. Higher up the 2022 Jaguar trim levels is a more powerful powertrain—the same 2.0-liter turbo-four with a mild hybrid system that boosts the output to 296 horsepower and 295 lb-ft in these higher models. These powertrains use a nine-speed automatic that sends power to the all-wheel drive.
Although this nine-speed may feel slightly laggy before downshifting, it is still much better than the QX50’s CVT.
Handling And Performance
The 2022 QX50 offers a more composed and comfortable ride than the 2022 E-Pace, even with a not-so refined powertrain- a problematic transmission and not-so-exciting acceleration. No doubt, the Jaguar E-Pace is a fun-to-drive SUV with a firm and composed ride, improved handling, and a more responsive braking system. However, this Jag sacrifices its comfort for a fun driving experience.
But this does not mean that the 2022 QX50 is the most excellent daily cruiser you can lease in the segment. While this Infiniti’s small luxury SUV offers a comfortable ride, communicative steering, and composed handling, its brake pedal can be inconsistent sometimes.
Fuel Economy
Powertrain refinement may not be the forte of the 2022 Infiniti QX50, but it’s very efficient than the 2022 Jaguar E-Pace, thanks to the new continuously variable transmission (CVT).
With the standard FWD, the 2022 QX50 gets an EPA estimated 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Opting to the available AWD drops the numbers to 22/28 mpg city/highway.
EPA estimates the 2022 E-Pace to return 20 in the city and 26 mpg on the highway with the base powertrain. The optional mild-hybrid engine gets 21/26 mpg city/highway.
Interior
Inside, the Infiniti prioritizes luxury and comfort over every other thing. While both the 2022 QX50 and the 2022 E-Pace boasts a well-built interior with high-quality materials and soft surfaces, the QX50 offers a more spacious cabin. The E-Pace, although having a decent cargo hold, its cargo capacity is nothing compared to that of the QX50, which is one of the largest in the segment.
Both subcompact SUVs seats five, but the QX50 promises more spacious, supportive, and comfortable seats, even in the rear seats.
For infotainment, while the 2022 E-Pace sports an 11.4-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features, the 2022 QX50 comes with a dual-touchscreen infotainment system—an 8-inch upper touch screen and a 7-inch lower touch screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay feature as well.
Cost
The 2022 Infiniti QX50, with a starting MSRP of $39,000, costs less than the 2022 Jaguar E-Pace that starts at $42,045 MSRP.
