2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Vs. 2022 GMC Yukon: Which Is Better For Family Usage?

Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon are the top names in the large SUV segment in the US auto market. Every shopper looking to lease a three-row SUV will undoubtedly have these two marques at the top of the list. The big Tahoe and the cavernous Yukon offer tremendous power, ample passenger space, and exemplary cargo hold.

If you’re looking to lease a reliable large family SUV and you’re a fan of General Motors, you should consider leasing either the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe or leasing the 2022 GMC Yukon. While being built on the same General Motor’s platform and using the same powertrain, infotainment system, and sharing similar traits, these utes still have some subtle traits that make them stand apart. So, what are their differences? Is leasing the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe better? Or should you stick with the 2022 GMC Yukon lease deal?

The Headline

The new Chevrolet Tahoe is part of the fifth generation introduced in the 2021 model year. After getting a ground-up redesign last year, the Tahoe SUV moves into the 2022 Chevrolet lineup with some tweaks, but nothing so significant.

2021 saw the introduction of Tahoe’s first-ever independent suspension. This year, this American brand has improved the handling, cabin comfort further, and ride quality of the Tahoe.

The RST, Z71, and Premier trim now have an optional 420-hp 6.2-liter V8 powertrain. Also available in the Z71 trim is an electronic limited-slip differential to help boost this trim’s off-road prowess. Besides the base LS model, all 2022 Tahoe comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. This infotainment system now features Google Assistant like Google voice, maps, and app store. If you have a problem leasing the Tahoe because of its limited standard safety and driver-assist tech features, you might as well consider leasing the 2022 Chevy Tahoe as Chevy now packs this large SUV with more standard safety features, including automatic high-beams, front and rear parking sensors, lane-keeping assist with lane departure warning, and the GM’s Buckle to Drive seatbelt feature. Moreover, the 23 available camera views and the new paint color options (metallic colors—Auburn, Dark Ash, and Evergreen Gray) make leasing the new Chevy Tahoe quite an interesting option.

For the Yukon, the GMC’s largest SUV, after it got a full redesign in the 2021 model year, which witnessed new styling, more tech features, and an optional powertrain in the GMC Yukon, the 2022 Yukon moves into the 2022 GMC lineup with some minor changes—majorly tech updates.

The fifth-generation Yukon, introduced in 2021, did all it could to further distinguish itself from its siblings, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban. No doubt, GMC hopes that the more tech upgrades in the 2022 model year will help it maintain a step further away from these other large SUVs. For 2022, under the hood, a 6.2-liter V8 with a dual exhaust system is now available on the AT4 trim level. Like the Tahoe, the new Yukon gets an upgraded infotainment system with a standard 12.0-inch digital gauge display that features an enhanced Google Assistant package. GMC also added minor tweaks throughout its various trim levels, including the top-end Denali now getting a power-sliding center console as standard.

Powertrain And Transmission

Chevrolet offers trio powertrain options. Under the hood, the latest generation of the Tahoe comes standard with a 5.3-liter V8 engine that coughs out 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The other two available powertrains include a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, joined by a diesel 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 that sends 277 hp and 460 lb-ft to either the rear wheel or to a four-wheel-drive system. Every Tahoe powertrain pairs a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive (standard) or all-wheel drive (optional).

After introducing a new diesel engine in the 2022 Yukon, GMC has brought the tally of powertrain options in the Yukon to equal that of the Tahoe. Powering the base models is a 5.3-liter V8 engine that generates 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Higher up the trim level, a 6.2-liter V8 that delivers 420 horses and 460 lb-ft is available. Finally, the 2022 GMC Yukon offers a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-six that pumps out 277 horses and 460 lb-ft. Like Chevy’s Tahoe, all 2022 Yukon powertrains are hooked to a responsive 10-speed automatic transmission and rear- or all-wheel drive. The turbo-diesel engine is the go-to option for shoppers looking to lease a Yukon that can tow heavy items.

Handling And Transmission

When it comes to handling and performance, the 2022 GMC Yukon does it better than the 2022 Tahoe. Although the Tahoe affords a firm steering and a retuned suspension, the Yukon delivers a more comfy and relaxing ride quality. It does a better job at absorbing road imperfections.

Fuel Economy

As both GM’s large SUVs share similar powertrains and transmission, you shouldn’t be surprised to know that both earn similar EPA estimated numbers. The most efficient Tahoe’s powertrain returns 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. In comparison, that of the Yukon gets 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.

Interior And Comfort

Before these two GM’s SUVs got a full redesign, their third-row seats were never a nice place for adult passengers. But thanks to their new ground-up redesign, both the 2022 GMC Yukon and the 2022 Chevy Tahoe now afford ample head and legroom across all three rows. These SUVs get the same cavernous passenger and cargo space.

When it comes to interior quality, the Yukon clearly beats the Tahoe. While there may be some visible hard plastics in the base models, the 2022 Yukon sports more quality and soft-touch materials that are well laid. The 2022 Chevy Tahoe and the 2022 GMC Yukon sport its brands’ latest infotainment system.

Cost

The base model of the 2022 Chevy Tahoe has an MSRP of about a thousand dollars less than the entry 2022 Yukon model. Higher up the trim, the Tahoe costs even less than the Yukon.

Review From Ashley Smith: This was my first experience using a leasing company. In the past, I leased my cars directly through the dealership and always felt that I didn’t receive a fair price. I had such a pleasant experience with VIP Auto Lease from the first time I called to when my car was delivered. Michael Jeffries was a pleasure to work with. He was very responsive and able to get me a great deal. He made the leasing process smooth and easy. I was so impressed there were no hidden fees and that the car was delivered right to my house! I will definitely use VIP Auto Lease again in the future! Thank you again!
