ID.4. Worth being straight about: 2026 is the ID.4’s final model year in the US. Volkswagen stopped building it in April 2026, so what is available now is remaining stock rather than something that can be ordered. That does not make it a bad lease — the warranty, the servicing and the dealer network are unaffected, and run-out models often carry strong manufacturer support. It does mean availability is the constraint, so if it is the car you want, ask early rather than assuming it will still be there next month.

ID. Buzz. The electric van, and genuinely the most practical electric vehicle VW sells for a family. Staten Island is the borough where an EV makes the most sense in the whole city, because a house with a driveway or a garage is normal here rather than a luxury — overnight charging at home is the difference between an easy electric car and a difficult one. Does the 2026 Golf GTI Still Come With a Manual?

No — and this catches people coming back to the brand after a few years.

The Golf GTI is now automatic-only in the US. The manual was dropped with the current facelift, and the Golf R has been automatic for longer. For 2026 the Jetta GLI is the last manual Volkswagen sells here, and it loses the option for 2027 — after which Volkswagen has no stick shift left in its American range at all.

If a manual is what you actually want, this is the window, and it is a narrow one. Tell us at the quoting stage, because it changes which cars are worth chasing and it is not something that can be fixed by ordering differently later.

What Volkswagen’s Included Maintenance Is Really Worth on a Lease

Volkswagen includes two years of scheduled maintenance on a new car — the first two services, with the interval set at every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. It is a genuine benefit and it is rarely explained properly, so here is how it actually lands on a Staten Island lease.

The mileage half of that rule is what matters here. Staten Island households run twelve to fifteen thousand miles a year without trying. At that rate the 10,000-mile trigger arrives long before the twelve-month one — which means both included services can be used up inside about eighteen months rather than two years.

So on a thirty-six month lease, plan for the rest. The first two services are covered; the ones after that are yours. That is not a reason to avoid the car, it is a reason to budget the real monthly cost rather than the advertised one, and to ask about a prepaid service plan at signing if you want it smoothed out. A twenty-four month term, by contrast, will often sit almost entirely inside the covered window — which is worth putting on the table when we compare terms.

What the Best Volkswagen Lease Deals on Staten Island Cost Once Tax Is In

New York does not tax a lease month by month. Under Tax Law §1111(i), the tax is assessed once, at signing, on the total of every payment across the term. Staten Island sits in Richmond County and registers at the New York City rate of 8.875%, and that rate follows where the car is registered, not where the dealership sits.

On a $325 monthly payment over thirty-six months, that is $11,700 in payments and roughly $1,038 in sales tax, due at signing. At $460 a month it is about $1,470, and at $640 about $2,045.

It is normally capitalised into the monthly payment, which is why most people never see it as a line of its own. Ask for the figure before you sign. A quote that does not show it is not a complete quote.

$0 Down Volkswagen Leases on Staten Island

A down payment does not make a lease cheaper. It moves money from later to now.

Put $3,200 down on a thirty-six month Volkswagen lease and the payment falls by roughly $89 a month. Across the term you have paid the same, less a small amount of interest on the reduced balance. What you have also done is hand the bank $3,200 that is gone if the car is written off in month four, because the insurance settlement is paid to the lienholder rather than to you. GAP covers the shortfall still owed to VW Credit. It does not refund your capitalised cost reduction.

That is the case for zero down leasing, and it is why we default to it.

What zero down does not remove. The sales tax above is still due at signing, along with the first month’s payment, the bank acquisition fee and New York DMV registration. Those can be rolled in, but they cannot be made to disappear.

Add the lienholder to your insurance early. VW Credit has to appear on the policy before the car can be released, and some insurers take a day or two to issue the amended declarations page.

Confirm the registration address. It sets the sales tax rate, carries the tickets, and is what qualifies the vehicle for the Staten Island Resident discount on the Verrazzano — which needs an E-ZPass New York account with the vehicle registered to a valid Staten Island resident address, and allows only one vehicle per account. Change cars and forget to update the plate, and you are billed at the Tolls by Mail rate from the first crossing.

Photograph the car on the day it arrives, wheels and bumpers included. A dated set of photographs from delivery day is the only defence against paying three years later for damage that was already there.
