The previous generation of Honda’s subcompact crossover was far behind its rivals in virtually every aspect, but the new HR-V is here to right all wrongs and take its segment by storm.
The all-new 2023 Honda HR-V gets a series of sensational upgrades, including a sporty design that is good for the eyes and a crisp chassis that appeals to your inner racer. What the new HR-V lacks, however, is a punchy engine to match its classic design. Still, leasing the 2023 Honda HR-V guarantees a heartwarming small SUV experience.
Engine & Performance
Under the hood of the new HR-V is a 2.0Liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder gotten from the Honda Civic. The engine pairs with a continuously variable transmission and generates 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, but shoppers can always upgrade to all-wheel drive. The all-new HR-V is much more athletic than its predecessor, thanks to a crisper chassis inherited from the Civic sedan/hatchback. However, the 158-hp four-cylinder engine can only propel Honda’s smallest crossover from zero to 60mph in a mediocre 9.4 seconds. Given that the new HR-V shares its platform with the Civic, we can only hope the crossover gets a higher-output engine or something better along the line.
Fuel Economy
The front-wheel-drive HR-V is rated 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, making it the most fuel-efficient HR-V for 2023. Opting for the available all-wheel drive brings the ratings to 25 mpg and 32 mpg, respectively.
Interior
The 2023 HR-V sports a redesigned interior with a unique honeycomb mesh dashboard and attractive design accents similar to what is offered in newer Honda lease deals. Honda has discontinued the crossover’s unique magic seat feature that bolstered the crossover’s cargo capacity. However, the Japanese automaker claims the new HR-V’s interior is more spacious than its predecessor. A tilt and telescopic steering column, a 4-speaker sound system, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen display are standard, while leather seats, ambient lighting, an eight-speaker audio system, wireless charger, and a 9.0-inch touchscreen are provided on the top-spec EX-L trim.
Safety & Driver Assistance
Like you’d expect to see in a new Honda, the 2023 HR-V is well equipped with a host of essential safety equipment as standard. Other advanced safety and driver assistance features are also optional. Here’s a lineup of some safety and driver assistance technology found on the all-new Honda HR-V;
- Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Monitor
- Collision Mitigation Braking System
- Road Departure Mitigation System
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow
- Lane Keeping Assist System
- Forward Collision Warning
- Traffic Jam Assist
- Traffic Sign Recognition System
- Low-Speed Braking Control
- Parking Sensors (front and rear)
- Auto High-Beam Headlights, etc.
