For those in the know, General Motors is one of the big auto giants that are so much enthusiastic about offering fully electrified cars. With some of its brands already launching an EV to kickstart their EV portfolio, if you’re still wondering when the Buick brand will join its other siblings, then your wait is about to come to an end.
Not quite long ago, GM made known its plan to roll out 20 new electric vehicles before the end of 2023. This is also part of its plan to bring 30 new all-electric models worldwide by 2025, with two-thirds of them available in North America. By default, Buick will be part of the GM’s all-electric campaign, so leasing a Buick EV is much within reach than you ever imagined. Besides, General Motors has recently divulged its plan to introduce two new Buick crossovers soon (an SUV and ‘CUV’).
The Next Buick EVs
At least two new Buick EVs will be available at all dealership showrooms before the end of 2025. GM has made it clear that both models will be crossovers, including a midsize EV crossover SUV and a sporty compact EV crossover, otherwise named “CUV.”
Both of the incoming Buick EVs will be based on General Motor’s BEV3 dedicated EV platform. It will also use the latest GM’s Ultium battery technology. This Ultium batteries come in different ranges, between 50 kWh to 200 kWh, with the largest delivering up to 400 miles of driving range per charge.
While details of the two new Buick EV powertrains remain a mystery, it is hard to tell how big its battery will be and the amount of power it will have. Nevertheless, from all indications, these EV crossovers will be offered with all-wheel drive.
On the inside, GM has indicated that one of the models will have “more conventional crossover proportions that maximize interior space and cargo.” On the other hand, the second EV crossover will offer “more expressive proportions with a greater emphasis on form and athletic fashion.” Basically, this means that one model will be designed to afford ample space for everyday practicality. In contrast, the second Buick EV will feature a greater emphasis on style and performance. Both new EVs are expected to come with the General Motors’ Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver-assist system.
The Buick Electra
No doubt, North America will not be the only region graced with the Buick electrified models. Buick has already offered many fully electric and hybrid cars in other places, including China. The Buick Electra is already making big waves in China.
Speaking to a Journalist, the executive vice president of SAIC-GM, Sam Basile, said, “Today, Buick’s innovative thinking and imagination of future intelligent mobility have reached the next level with the Electra.” He further stated. “I am confident that the aesthetics and technology innovations reflected on the Electra will ultimately help reset consumers’ expectations, just as all previous Buick concepts have done.”
