There are numerous entries in the mid-size crossover and SUV segment, but the three-row 2023 Kia Sorento is one to take into account. The Sorento offers the utility of the larger Telluride with better fuel economy and multiple powertrain configurations.
The Sorento, like the majority of Kia models, provides sufficient passenger space for its size and even has optional extras like heated and cooled front and second-row seats.
Engine and Performance
The Sorento is provided with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and has a variety of engine choices. Both a standard 2.5-liter inline-4 engine with 191 horsepower and a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with 281 horsepower are offered.
The hybrid model uses a six-speed automatic transmission, while both pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder gas engine and an electric motor combine to produce 227 horsepower in the environmentally friendly Sorento hybrid.
The Sorento plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive has the same engine and transmission as the less powerful hybrid, but in this configuration, a more potent electric motor allows the powertrain to produce a combined 261 horsepower.
Fuel Economy
When powered by the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, the EPA estimates that the Sorento can achieve up to 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
EPA ratings for the more potent 2.5-liter turbocharged four are 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. With an estimated 39 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, the hybrid Sorento HEV is the most fuel-efficient vehicle.
The plug-in hybrid achieves a combined MPGe rating of 79. When operated in Hybrid mode, the Sorento PHEV achieves EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 35 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
Interior
The Sorento has a stylish interior, high-quality materials, and a solid quality. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system are available for the dashboard.
The rest of the design blends rhombus-shaped air vents, built-in ambient lighting, and meticulously stitched surfaces on the door panels and seat inserts. The console is also equipped with numerous cup holders and cubby storage spaces.
Its second-row bench can be changed for a pair of captain’s chairs in addition to a standard third row. The Sorento’s far-back seats aren’t as comfortable for adults as the larger Telluride.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The Sorento offers several driver-assistance features that are both standard and optional. The following features are included; standard forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance, available blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
