Ram is all out to participate in the already burgeoning electric pickup truck race. Last year, Stellantis announced its electrification strategy that includes all auto brands under it to get a fully electrified model in all segments by 2030.
Already, Stellantis has confirmed that the 1500 pickup truck will mark Ram’s first attempt at full electrification. However, it won’t be available for leasing until at least 2024, which is a bit late compared to some of its closest rivals that are almost ready to roll out their fully electric half-ton pickup. Of course, this could be to watch out for any misstep from its rivals and improve on that. It could also be to see what its ever-growing customers want and deliver just that. Whatever the reason is, we expect Ram’s first all-electric truck to compete strongly in its segment.
While Ram hasn’t said much about the all-new 1500 EV, it has promised to equip its first electric truck with autonomous driving, fast charging capabilities, and a standard all-wheel-drive system.
Ram plans to build the 2024 Ram 1500 EV on the Stellantis’ STLA Frame platform, which according to Ram, will push the 1500 EV to go for up to 500 miles on a single charge and be able to tow more than 10,000 pounds.
Range & Charging
While proper details about the 2024 Ram 1500 EV are not out yet, Ram has confirmed that its first half-ton truck will be built on the Stellantis’ STLA Frame platform and have a driving range of up to 500 miles per charge. Using a DC fast charger, the 1500 EV can charge at a rate of up to 150 kWh.other details about possible home charging, charging hours, and using public charge stations will be available as the new electric truck nears its release date.
What More To Expect?
While it’s no news that the popular Ram’s half-ton truck will be getting a complete electric makeover and will be available by 2024, it will not immediately end the internal combustion engine variants. Details about the 2024 Ram 1500 EV truck remains sketchy as Ram has not offered much information about this electric truck at this time, but we expect the new Electric Ram to feature a dual-cab configuration, EV trip energy monitor, charge station locator, and many drive modes.
We could also get a more enhanced cabin with more tech equipment and refined interior elements compared to the regular Ram 1500. On the outside, images made available by Ram suggest that we will likely be getting a 1500 EV with a more aerodynamic design than the regular ICE 1500.
Although Ram will be late to the electric pickup truck party, that shouldn’t worry Ram fans. We can only hope that the additional time it is taking to reveal the Ram 1500 EV will apply in refining this electric truck and push it to redefine the segment.
