In 2023, Dodge unveils 2023 Challenger SRT Demon 170 — its last super-fast gasoline muscle car – CBS News. In addition to this, The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is a 1025-hp street-legal drag-strip special that signals the end of the brand’s V-8 muscle cars. Its four-digit horsepower figure requires E85 gasoline, and with that Dodge claims a quarter-mile time of 8.91 seconds at 151 mph on a prepared surface.
DETROIT — Dodge is resurrecting its controversial muscle car model, the Challenger SRT Demon, as a final special edition of the vehicle before production of the brand’s current V8 engine cars ends later this year, in 2023.
Dodge has opened the order books on its “Last Call” sale for the Challenger and Charger models. The coupe and sedan are scheduled to be discontinued at the end of the 2023 model year.
The last gas-powered muscle car from Dodge isn’t leaving the road without some squeals, thunder and crazy-fast speed. The 2023 Challenger SRT Demon 170 will deliver 1,025 horsepower from its 6.2-liter supercharged V-8, and the automaker says it will be the quickest production car made.
Hellcat Hemi engine
The famed Hellcat Hemi engine is set to be the latest victim of this trend, as it’s reportedly being discontinued after 2023. (The Hellcat may live on in some form as a limited-run crate engine, however, and there’s a slight possibility that a version could power a next-generation Dodge model for a short time.)
What’s New for 2024? The plug-in-hybrid R/T model joins the lineup this year, complete with a 288-hp powertrain that’s expected to provide over 30 miles of electric-only driving range. Being only its second model year on the market, we expect to see no other significant changes to the Hornet lineup for 2024.
Dodge is ditching gas-powered models.
According to The Detroit News, Dodge will end its production of gas cars in December 2023. Then, come 2024, Dodge will unleash an all-electric muscle car.
Dodge is making a charger in 2024. The 2024 Charger will likely be offered in a variety of trims, but so far we only know of three. The first two wear the 340 and 440 names to indicate their horsepower in kilowatts. Dodge has also said the most powerful model will be called SRT Banshee.
Dodge is going electric. America’s most gasoline-soaked automaker has spent 2022 preparing its faithful for the big shift as the Brotherhood of Muscle switches from V8s to volts. The Charger and Challenger are on the way out, set for retirement at the end of the 2023 model year.
Power. The 2024 Dodge Charger 340 is expected to make 455 horsepower, while the 440 is expected to deliver 590 horses.
To beat those numbers, the Banshee will likely cover the quarter mile in the 10-second range while reaching a top speed over 200 miles per hour.
