The Sportage finds itself in a hotly-contested segment, but its extroverted styling, spacious cabin, and an array of desirable standard features set it apart. The compact KIA is the go-to choice for many New York City residents who want to appear different while enjoying a compact ride’s affordability, fuel efficiency and near-luxury experience. Let’s learn more about the 2023 Kia Sportage’s unique features and updates.
The KIA Sportage is all-new for 2023, and it sports an out-of-the-box exterior styling that distinguishes it from the entire compact crossover class. It flaunts an aggressive-looking front end with an unusual headlight design. The Sportage’s bold look is complemented with attractive machined-finish alloy wheels ranging from 17 to 19 inches.
By default, the new KIA Sportage is motivated by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that cranks out 187 horses and 178 lb-ft of torque. The engine hooks up to an eight-speed automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive.
Want something more frugal?
There’s an available hybrid model, and it’s even more powerful than the base four-cylinder. The hybrid combines a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to generate a combined 226 horsepower. KIA has also introduced a gutsier 261-hp plug-in hybrid variant. Unlike most options in this segment, the new 2023 Sportage has a rugged X-Pro trim with off-road-oriented enhancements like 8.3-inch ground clearance, all-terrain tires and multi-terrain mode.
EPA says the most fuel-efficient 2023 Sportage is the 226-hp hybrid and will do 42 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway. Of the gas-powered models, those with front-wheel drive get the highest rating at 25 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.
The new Sportage’s interior is a massive upgrade on the outgoing model. It gets larger displays and quality materials. The standard model has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, but every other trim gets the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display with navigation as standard. Cloth seats and a six-speaker sound system come standard, while an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, synthetic leather seats, and an attractive two-tone color scheme are optional. The new Sportage’s wheelbase is longer than its predecessors, translating to a roomier and more practical cabin.
The new Sportage also features KIA’s latest safety and driver assistance technologies, including;
